Le Divorce

Le Divorce Posted by Hello

I wonder if this film suffered because of mixed expectations. I certainly didn't know that this was a Merchant-Ivory production until after I'd rented it. I thought it was a romantic comedy...you know, like My Best Friend's Wedding or something. And while I guess it is still technically a romantic comedy, one has to account for the fact that it's a Merchant-Ivory romantic comedy.

That bumps it into a different genre for me. It probably shouldn't since my pigeon-holing of Merchant-Ivory is unfair. I admit that I wondered as I watched Le Divorce..."Where's Maggie Smith?" "Where's Emma Thompson?" But alas, this is romantic-comedy-Merchant-Ivory. It works. But who would've expected Kate Hudson to be directed by James Ivory? Ok, ok. I'll stop.
